How Do You Install A New Clutch on A Go Kart ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS: Remove outer drive cover. Loosen nuts on bottom of engine mounting plate allowing engine to slide back, loosening drive chain.Remove drive chain from drive wheel sprocket(axle sprocket). Remove bolt and washers from end of engine crankshaft while noting location of spacers and washers for installing new clutch.Remove clutch from engine crankshaft. Install new clutch by aligning key inbore of clutch with keyway in engine crankshaft. Slide clutch onto shaft.Reinstall bolt and washers that hold clutch on crankshaft. Tightenbolt.Reinstall drive chain on clutch and drive wheel sprocket(axlesprocket).Slide engine forward to tighten chain. Chain should have approximately 1/4″ deflection when properly tensioned.Tighten nuts on bottom of engine mounting plate.Reinstall outer drive cover. WARNING! Guards must be inplace to protect rider(s) from rotating parts.
Oiling the clutch is extremely important, where do you oil the clutch Where do you oil the clutch Behind the snap ring, next to the sprocket teeth at the end of the clutch. There’s an internal bronze bushing behind the snap ring that requires lubrication and it’s up to you to put it there each time. It’s a good idea to oil the chain at the same time. If the chain gets kinky from lack of oil it should be replaced before it damages the clutch sprocket. A new chain is cheaper than a new clutch. Do not lubricate the ventilation holes of the clutch, as this will only cause the clutch to slip and not fully engage anymore.
MAINTENANCE & INSPECTION Instructions: TO BE PERFORMED PRIOR TO EVERY USE!!! Oil the clutch bushing every 4 hours of use. Try to get the oil in between the housing and the bushing. Removal of the bushing from the sprocket is the best way to ensure proper lubrication.Inspect the chain tension, chain condition, and sprocket alignment.Inspect the clutch for damaged, missing, or loose parts. Warm Tips: Clutch Slipping:The clutch weight rpm just isn??t excessive sufficient. The engine not being highly effective sufficient sometimes is the result of a mismatch in ratios to the rear-drive wheels. So the true motive is that the ratio just isn??t steep sufficient, and subsequently, the engine smokes the clutch. The treatment for the primary clutch smoking drawback is to change the driveline in order that the general ratio is steeper. The easy technique is to extend the rear sprocket diameter. So the clutch engagement rpm must be taken under consideration in any other case the clutch will smoke on the secondary jackshaft mounting place.
Habits That Can Ruin A Clutch – Keep Your Machine Safe
1. Driving too slowly: A clutch starts to engage around 2,000 rpm and will lock up around 2,600 rpm. 2. Short stop and go driving: The longer you drive at full throttle the better off it is for the clutch, because it gives it a chance to cool off before the next engagement.
3. Driving with the foot on the brake: This is a problem with new drivers that are unsure of themselves. 4. Changing the size of the tires: Putting on tires that are larger than what came with the kart will result in clutch problems. No larger than 15″ tall.
5. Weight: A centrifugal clutch is designed to be able to move a certain amount of weight. 6. Gear ratio: The sprocket on the engine and the one on the rear axle should have a ratio close to 1:6.(10 tooth = 60 rear sprocket)
7. Restrictions: Don’t try and reduce a go kart speed by limiting the travel of the gas pedal or by putting a restrictor in the carburetor to limit full rpm. 8. Don’t put oil inside the clutch holes: The holes on the drum are to let the hot air out of the clutch. DO NOT SQUIRT OIL IN THESE HOLES. When oil gets in the drum portion of the clutch it will cause excessive slippage, which means undue heat will be generated.
