Start your chain saw correctly, because proper use and maintenance will keep it an effective tool and reduce the risk of injury. For example, remembering to move the switch to “Stop” when you’re done using the Homelite 330 will keep it safe when you have to readjust the chain or fill the tank. Use caution when starting the chain saw. 1 Move the saw at least 10 feet away from the fueling area. Move the switch to the “Run” position. 2 Grip the Homelite 330 so that the fingers and thumbs on one hand are completely around the handle behind the hand guard. 3 Move the bar so that it isn’t touching anything. The Homelite 330 shouldn’t be started if the saw is contacting any objects. 4 Push down the throttle handle on top of the handle with your free palm, and then use your fingers to hold down the trigger under the handle. 5 Push the trigger latch on the side of the handle in with your thumb and hold it in. Release the trigger under the handle, and then release the latch to start the saw. 6 Place the Homelite 330 on the ground. Continue holding the handle near the hand guard and put your foot through the rear handle to keep it on the ground. Grasp the starter grip attached to the rope and pull it up firmly. 7 Move the choke switch to “Half” position with the hand gripping the handlebar when the engine responds by sputtering or running briefly. Move the choke to “Open” to engage the engine and keep the Homelite 330 running. 8Release the starter grip, and then grasp the back handle of the saw so your fingers are on the trigger. Lift up the saw again. 9 Squeeze the trigger to throttle the engine of the saw. Your thumb and fingers should be wrapped around different sides of the chain saw handle, with your fingers on the trigger.
